The West Assam Milk Producers' Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL), also known as Purabi Dairy, located in Guwahati, has raised the rates of all pasteurized pouch milk varieties by Rs 1 per 500 ml w.e.f August 8, 2021.

The dairy has stated that it will raise the milk procurement rate by one rupee for every liter of milk obtained from Assamese dairy farmers.

WAMUL stated that the decision was necessary in order to continue providing Assam's dairy farmers with stable remuneration. “This retail price change coincides with Purabi Dairy increasing the milk procurement price by Re 1 per liter of milk purchased from Assam dairy farmers. Also, increased cost of operations, fuel expenses, packaging costs, and inflation in general being a few additional reasons,” the company stated.

The statement continued, "WAMUL, as a dairy cooperative, has always been focused on 'sustainability in the dairy sector,' which includes, but is not limited to, taking notice of farm end economics in order to assure remunerative and committed payouts to dairy farmers throughout the year."

Purabi Dairy has maintained continuity in milk procurement from farmers even during COVID-induced lockdowns, ensuring that WAMUL-affiliated farmers are protected from the economic stress experienced by many at such critical periods, according to WAMUL.

At the same time, Purabi Dairy, Assam's fresh milk market leader, has worked with the state government to ensure that customers have access to critical milk and milk products.

Purabi Dairy has also established and launched Bulk Milk Cooling (BMC) Centers in DhingKaliabor, and Goalpara, as well as expanding its milk procurement belt to connect more than 50 Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS), allowing it to reach out to dairy farmers in rural areas.
