Delhi Rains
India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that thunderstorm with heavy rainfall will continue over Delhi and bordering regions for the next few hours today (September 1).
Lodhi Road and the areas surrounding the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi, as well as the National Capital Region (NCR) such as Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Noida, may also experience heavy showers later in the day.
Delhi has been experiencing heavy rains since beginning of this week, and roads in the national capital were flooded once again on Wednesday, following a similar spell the day before when heavy morning rains brought the city to a halt, with commuters struggling as key stretches were inundated, exposing the city's pathetic drainage system, failure to prepare for the monsoon.
IMD tweeted, “Thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of isolated places of East, Southeast, Northeast, North Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Dadri, Meerut, & Modinagar”.
Delhi has recorded 144.7 mm of rainfall till 30 August. This is around 31% below the normal of 209.4 mm for the month, as per the IMD's rainfall statistics.
Rainfall in other parts of India:
Moderate to severe thunderstorm activity with cloud-to-ground lightning is also expected in isolated areas of West Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and Haryana, according to the weather service.
IMD further also said in its tweet that, “Due to a low-pressure area over western parts of Vidarbha, rainfall activity over Mumbai and its suburbs would continue during next 24 hours leading to moderate rain at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall (less than 15cm) at isolated places”.
