Costliest Mushroom: This New Mushroom Variety costs Rs. 1.5 Lakh per kg

Mushrooms have long been a staple of many delectable dishes, whether Chinese, Japanese, Italian, or Indian. However, a new mushroom species is currently being claimed as having medical benefits and is being sold for a stunning Rs 1.50 lakh per kilogram. 

This new mushroom species, cordyceps militaris, has long been used in Chinese and Tibetan traditional therapy. Gujarat scientists have successfully cultivated it at the Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology (GUIDE) in Kutch. These mushrooms were grown in 35 jars in a lab in a controlled atmosphere. It produced 350 grams in 90 days. 

According to a report, the institute has discovered that the mushroom can be used to treat breast cancer. They now hope to train entrepreneurs to cultivate the mushrooms on a laboratory size for a small cost. 

Besides cordyceps militaris, there are many different types of mushrooms grown all over the world.

What makes Cordyceps Militaris so popular? 

According to scientists, it can lessen the size of tumors in the body. It also aids in the enhancement of cellular energy and the strengthening of heart muscles. It is beneficial to the respiratory system, curing asthma and assisting in bronchus enlargement, as well as preventing pulmonary emphysema.

It's extensively used as an energy tonic because it boosts stamina and boosts immunity. 

What about Clinical Trials ? 

The anti-tumor ingredient of the mushroom was examined in depth in collaboration with Nirma University in Ahmedabad. Animal research looked into the extracts' anti-cancer effectiveness in vivo against breast cancer. The findings indicate that the extracts can significantly reduce the size of breast cancer tumors.  

GUIDE has applied for permission to conduct human clinical studies. Its effects on prostate cancer are also being investigated by the institute. The cost of mushroom cultivation instruction is Rs 1 lakh per week, however GUIDE will provide the training for minimal charge.
