This article includes the food items you should eat and avoid after an eye surgery.

LASIK is a laser eye surgery procedure used to improve vision. People considering LASIK must follow some strict guidelines in order to speed up recovery and avoid complications. What we eat can also have a big impact on how quickly we recover from eye surgery. This article discusses foods to eat and avoid after LASIK surgery.

Foods To Eat After Eye Surgery:

Vitamins

Vitamins, particularly vitamin C, are well-known for their eye-health benefits. Consuming vitamin-rich foods can speed up your recovery. Vitamins can also lower the chances of developing cataracts. They also aid in the slowing of eye aging.

Here are some vitamin-rich foods to incorporate into your diet:

  • Citrus fruits

  • Red bell peppers

  • Green leafy vegetables

  • Milk

  • Carrots

  • Tomatoes

  • Berries

Healthy Fats

Healthy fats aid the body's absorption of various nutrients. Despite their bad reputation, foods high in healthy fats are necessary for the body. They assist the body by absorbing all of the vitamins and other nutrients found in our food.

Here are some examples of foods high in healthy fats:

  • Avocado

  • Sweet potatoes

  • Whole eggs

  • Seeds

  • Nuts

Protein

Protein-rich foods have been shown to benefit both the body and the eyes. Eating a protein-rich diet improves the health of your cells, which speeds up recovery. Veins, vessels, and other structures in the eyes require protein to function and heal.

Here are the best protein-rich foods to include in your diet following eye surgery:

  • Chicken (organic)

  • Salmon

  • Eggs

  • Dairy products

  • Nuts

  • Seeds

Carbohydrates

Many of you may be surprised by this. Carbohydrates are also frequently avoided. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, provide our bodies with enough energy while also promoting healing.

Here are some suggestions for healthy carbs to eat after LASIK surgery:

  • Quinoa

  • Whole wheat

  • Bananas

  • Oats

  • Buckwheat

Foods To Avoid After Eye Surgery:

High-Sugar Foods

If you have recently had or are planning to have eye surgery, we recommend that you limit your sugar intake. Consuming sugary foods can cause an increase in blood pressure.

Here are some examples of common sugary foods to avoid:

  • Packed juices

  • Honey

  • Healthier sugar alternatives (brown sugar, coconut sugar, etc.)

  • Fruits with high-sugar

  • Cakes, pastries, candies, etc.

Sodium-Rich Foods

Foods high in sodium, such as salt, can have a similar effect on your blood pressure as sugary foods. Salt, in addition to raising your blood pressure, can cause a number of health problems. These abnormalities eventually deteriorate the health of your eyes.

Here are some sodium-rich foods to avoid after surgery:

  • Canned foods

  • Preserved foods

  • Ultra-processed foods (chips, etc.)

  • Pickles

Fried Food

Fried foods are high in fried oil, which is bad for your entire body. Furthermore, when you fry foods that aren't necessarily unhealthy, the frying process depletes them of all nutrients. As a result, they are unhealthy and essentially useless to the body.

Here are some examples of common fried foods to avoid:

  • Chips

  • Pakoras

  • Paranthas

  • Samosa, etc.

Ultra-Processed Foods

Highly processed foods are high in trans-fat, saturated fats, sodium, sugar, and other potentially harmful ingredients. Preservatives are used in large quantities in processed foods. These preservatives may also contribute to changes in blood pressure and other bodily functions, further deteriorating your eyes' health.

Here are some examples of ultra-processed foods to stay away from:

  • Chips

  • Packed popcorn

  • Fast foods (burgers, pizza, etc.)

  • Packed biscuits, cookies, etc.

Eating nutritious foods can aid in the recovery of your eyes. Furthermore, eating foods high in protein, vitamins, and healthy fats helps to improve the health of your eyes.
