PAU Produces Sufficient Supply of Paddy, Basmati, and Summer Moong Seeds for Punjab Farmers

Since its establishment, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has consistently advocated for farmers to procure seeds from reliable sources and avoid not-recommended varieties. In a recent development, PAU has ensured the availability of quality seeds for the Kharif season, including short-duration paddy and basmati varieties, as well as the high-yielding summer moong variety, SML 1827.

PAU's Efforts in Seed Production:

PAU has prioritized the production of sufficient quantities of various seed varieties crucial for the Kharif season. Notable among these are short-duration paddy varieties such as PR 130, PR 129, PR 128, PR 126, PR 121, and PR 114, along with basmati varieties including Punjab Basmati 7, Pusa basmati 1847, Pusa Basmati 1121, and Pusa Basmati 1509.

Dr. Rajinder Singh, Associate Director (Seeds), emphasized the resistance of these paddy varieties to bacterial blight and their lower straw load, ensuring enhanced resilience and productivity for farmers.

Dr. Singh highlighted that these quality seeds are readily available at various agricultural centers including Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Farm Advisory Service Centres (FASCs), Regional Research Stations (RRSs), and University Seed Farms (USFs) across all districts of the state. This widespread distribution network aims to facilitate farmers' easy access to certified seeds for their cultivation needs.

Dr. Singh urged farmers to prioritize purchasing certified seeds from nearby KVKs, FASCs, RRSs, and USFs. Emphasizing the importance of quality seeds for achieving enhanced productivity and profitability, this call to action underscores PAU's commitment to supporting farmers' welfare and agricultural sustainability.

PAU's efforts in providing high-quality seeds for the Kharif season reflect its dedication to agricultural advancement and farmer prosperity. By promoting the adoption of certified seeds through accessible distribution channels, PAU aims to empower farmers with the tools necessary for successful crop cultivation and economic well-being.
