First time, World Milk Day was celebrated in 2001 around the globe and many countries participated in the event. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) selected June 1st in 2001 as World Milk Day, which commemorates the contributions of the dairy sector to sustainability, economic development, livelihoods and nutrition.

The theme for World Milk Day 2021 will focus on 'Sustainability in the Dairy Sector along with Empowering the Environment, Nutrition, and Socio- Economic’. The FAO also plans to re- introduce dairy farming to the world, by helping to create a low- carbon future for the dairy industry.

Global Celebration:

Due to the situation of COVID- 19 pandemic, no major events are expected to be organized up by the committee. However, several campaigns are being organized by the Global Dairy Platform. The celebrations will start with an 'Enjoy Dairy Rally', to be held from 29- 31 May.
