Post-Harvest Revolution Needed in Farm Sector: PM Modi

On Monday (12th July), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there is a need for the “Post-Harvest Revolution” in farm sector, which has been witnessing an increase in the production. He said that the hardworking farmers have made a record in production of commodities despite unprecedented challenges of COVID-19 pandemic.

On Monday (12th July), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there is a need for the “Post-Harvest Revolution” in farm sector, which has been witnessing an increase in the production. He said that the hardworking farmers have made a record in production of commodities despite unprecedented challenges of COVID-19 pandemic.

“With increasing agricultural production, there is a need of post-harvest revolution & value edition, said PM Modi in a message while commemorating National Bank of Agriculture & Rural development’s foundation day, which was read out at an event.

He said, “We are striving relentlessly to intensify our speed & scale to achieve this. We have been taking the comprehensive steps to get complete solution, from irrigation to sowing, harvesting & earnings that are technology enabled”.

Last year, the Central government passed three farm laws but its implementation postponed amid farmers’ protest. In January 2021, the Supreme Court stayed implementation of three laws till further order and appointed a 4-member panel to resolve impasse. He also promised to double the income of farmers by the year 2022.

The government’s focus is to encourage the youth & promote startups associated with the agricultural sector. PM said, “We are giving the impetus to create a scientific ecosystem, speed up development according to wishes & expectations of villages and transform agricultural sector of economy through the holistic approach”.

He said a self-reliant rural economy is important for “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” or “Self-Reliant India” and adding that government has taken concrete measure over the last 7-years for the same. The government is committed to empower close to 12 crore small farmers & help them to become a driving force of rural economy.
