From farming at his family’s land to cultivating higher efficiency seeds till founding Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Co. (Mahyco), Dr. BR Barwale has always been an inspiration and proud to all of us. On Monday, Dr. BR Barwale passed away at 86.
He has provided assistance and guaranteeing loans for farmers cultivating Mahyco's seeds, Barwale's team was able to gain valuable feedback on various crop strains and make subsequent improvements to their yield and quality. Barwale was awarded the World Food Prize in 1998 for his work in providing affordable, high yield seed varieties and agronomic training to farmers across India. He also received Padma Vibhushan for his service by the Government of India.
