As a New Year gift for the Delhiites, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that it will start the 9.7 kilometer Lajpat Nagar to Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 corridor of the Pink Line on 31st December.

People in Delhi can start using the corridor from the same day itself, said DMRC. There are 5 stations in this section - 3 of them are underground while 2 are elevated.

Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) Commissioner conducted a safety inspection of the corridor earlier this week and after that gave necessary approvals for the commencement of passenger operations.

Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Hardeep Singh Puri will do the inauguration, a DMRC official told.

The official also said, "This extension of the DMRC’s Pink Line will be officially flagged off by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri and Shri Manish Sisodia on 31st December at 11 am from the Metro Bhawan. Commuter services will start on this section on the same day from 4 pm onwards”.

The 5 stations on this new section include Vinobapuri, Ashram, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Mayur Vihar Phase-1 and Mayur Vihar Pocket-1. The last two stations i.e. Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 and Mayur Vihar Phase-1 are elevated stations.

The Pink Line metro route is already operational from - Majlis Park to Lajpat Nagar and Trilokpuri to Shiv Vihar. After the launch of new corridor, the only stretch remaining on the Pink Line will be between Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 and Trilokpuri stations. The work in these stations started late because of land acquisition issues.
