  • ICAR-IARI: Narendra Singh Tomar Inaugurates International Hostel- ‘Madhumaas’

    On Guru Purnima's special day, the ‘Madhumaas’ International Hostel was inaugurated by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar. The ceremony was also attended by Union Minister of State for State for Agriculture, Kailash Chaudhary, and Director General and Secretary of DARE, Dr. Himansha Pathak.

  • Government Updates Crop Residue Management Guidelines for Northern States

    The Indian government announced on Saturday that it has updated the crop residue management guidelines for Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi in a bid to address the issue of stubble burning and improve air quality in these states. The revised guidelines include the establishment of techno-commercial pilot projects for the paddy straw supply chain through bilateral agreements between beneficiaries/aggregators such as farmers, rural entrepreneurs, cooperative societies of farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), and panchayats, and industries utilizing the paddy straw.

  • Jharkhand Mulling To Return To PMFBY Says Government Officials

    Earlier, Jharkhand including a few other Indian states like Bihar and West Bengal had chosen not to be a part of PMFBY. Now, Jharkhand may rejoin considering the PMFBY scheme for the upcoming Kharif season. The decision is driven by concerns over the impact of El Nino on monsoon rainfall and the previous experience of drought in two-thirds of the state. With a 64% rainfall deficiency in June, Jharkhand, a region prone to drought, is reevaluating its participation in the PMFBY.

    In times of drought and short pastures, cow-herd owners are advised to selectively cull their herds based on criteria such as non-pregnancy and poor performance. Downsizing and strategic management can help optimize feed utilization and preserve the best genetics.

  • Jharkhand to Plant 2.5 Crore Saplings and Enhance Forest Quality this Monsoon Season

    In order to improve the state’s forest cover and ecosystem health, Jharkhand government plans to plant 2.5 lakh saplings in this monsoon season to improve the soil quality and improve the overall quality of the forest. This is part of the larger plan to enrich the ecosystem and increase the forest cover in the state.
