  • Environment Ministry Celebrates World Environment Day 2023 with Emphasis on Mission LiFE

    The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the Government of India celebrated the World Environment Day on June 5th, 2023, highlighting the importance of Mission LiFE. The concept of LiFE, which stands for Lifestyle for Environment, was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the World Leaders' Summit during the COP26 in Glasgow. The Prime Minister called for a global effort to embrace eco-friendly lifestyles and practices. As part of Mission LiFE, a comprehensive list of 75 individual LiFE actions has been identified across seven themes, including saving water, saving energy, reducing waste, reducing e-waste, saying no to single-use plastics, adopting sustainable food systems, and adopting healthy lifestyles. 

  • New Report Identifies Pakistan, Afghanistan as Global Food Shortage 'Hotspots'

    According to a joint report by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP), Pakistan and Afghanistan have been identified as "early warning hotspots" for acute food insecurity. The report identifies Pakistan, the Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Syrian Arab Republic as hotspots with very high concern. Additionally, Myanmar is also included in the warning in this edition. 

  • HP Governor Calls for Stricter Regulations to Combat Climate Change Impact

    In a recent address at the 'North Zone Environment Workshop,' Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla emphasized the urgent need for stricter regulations to promote sustainable development and the adoption of cleaner technologies in order to mitigate the effects of climate change. Shukla expressed concern over the unbalanced state of the environment in Western countries, stating that it is affecting the entire world. He highlighted India's comparatively lower carbon emissions and stressed the importance of preserving the country's green cover.

    Sircilla, a renowned textile town in Telangana, has undergone an extraordinary transformation over the past nine years, providing improved livelihood opportunities for weavers, powerloom workers, and significant infrastructural development, according to Industries and IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao. Previously, weavers and power-loom workers faced dire circumstances due to the crisis in the power-loom sector and the lack of support from previous administrations. However, they now enjoy assured orders and sustainable incomes.
