  • FAO Warns of Potential El Nino Impact on India's Maize, Soya & Rice Output

    The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) warned that El Nino, a weather event that can trigger severe drought conditions over Australia, Indonesia and parts of South Asia, could have a negative impact on India’s corn, soyabean and rice production. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) agriculture and market information system (AMIS), the effects of El Nino are difficult to predict because no two events are alike in terms of strength, duration or localised mitigation.

  • FAO Sees First Yearly Rise in Global Food Prices

    In April, the world price index of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) experienced its initial upturn in a year. However, it remains 20% above the peak reached in March 2022, which was established subsequent to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. According to the agency's report on May 5, the Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) price index, which monitors the global trade of the most commonly traded food commodities, increased from 126.5 in March to 127.2 points in April.

     

  • Nestlé Opens Institute of Agricultural Sciences to Drive Progress in Sustainable Food Systems

    The Institute of Agricultural Sciences, established by Nestlé, is now operational with the goal of promoting sustainable food systems by providing agriculture-based solutions grounded in scientific research. The recently established center, situated in Switzerland, integrates a pre-existing research unit focused on plant science in France, along with farmlands in Ecuador, Côte d'Ivoire, and Thailand, in addition to alliances with research farms. 

     

  • Experts Predict Boost in Cotton Cultivation in North India Due to Recent Rain

    According to experts, there may be an increase in cotton plantation acreage in the Northern States this year due to untimely rain. In Haryana, a key summer crop, cotton has already been sown in 3.5 Lakh hectares, with a government target of 7 Lakh hectares for this summer. The government's data shows that cotton plantation in Haryana was carried out on 5.74 Lakh hectares last season. Similarly, in Punjab, cotton has been planted on 30,000 hectares so far, and the government aims to plant it on 3 Lakh hectares compared to 2.48 Lakh hectares last year.
