  • PM Modi pays tribute to former PM Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary 

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 36th death anniversary.  "Tributes to our former PM Smt. Indira Gandhiji on her death anniversary," the Prime Minister said. She was the first and, to date, only female Prime Minister of India. 

  • Sardar Patel is the leader whom I admire the most: Vice President Naidu 

    President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tributes to India's first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 145th birth anniversary. Naidu praised Patel for his monumental achievement of unifying India. He mentioned how at a critical juncture, Patel used his sagacity, ingenuity, skill, experience and grit to safeguard India's territorial unity and integrity.  "Through meticulous planning, negotiations, counselling, and tactful handling, Patel brought together all the princely states in one of the greatest accomplishments in modern history," Naidu said. 

  • Punjab CM launches scholarship scheme for SC students 

    Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday formally launched the recently announced Dr B.R. Ambedkar Post Matric Scheduled Caste Scholarship Scheme, and also virtually laid the foundation stone of Rs 50 crore worth of projects at Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal in Amritsar to mark the Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. 

  • Centre spent Rs 713.20 crore on ads in 2019-2020: RTI 

    The government of India spent a total of Rs713.20 crore on advertisements, with maximum share to the electronic media, during the financial year 2019-2020, an RTI reply to a Mumbai activist revealed here on Saturday.  "This comes to roughly Rs 1.95 crore per day that was spent only for advertisements in the last fiscal which also saw the Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly elections being held," said RTI activist Jatin Desai. 

  • COVID-19 Cases in Delhi increases with onset of winter and festival season

    The ongoing festive season, onset of winter and an increase in air pollution are among the reasons for a sudden spike in the cases of coronavirus disease in the national capital, according to Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain. The Capital breached its record for the highest number of COVID-19 cases recorded in a day four times this week.  While on Tuesday Delhi recorded 4,853 cases, on Wednesday it reported a record 5,673 COVID-19 cases. As many as 5,739 cases were recorded on Thursday and 5,891 infections and 47 deaths on Friday.
