Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent health issue affecting many women, from teenagers to those in middle age. It can have a significant impact on both physical and mental health.

The good news is that your kitchen might hold some natural remedies to help manage PCOS, even though there are medical treatments available. Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of medicine, is gaining popularity as a holistic approach to addressing PCOS.

Here are some key Ayurvedic herbs commonly used for managing PCOS:

  1. Kanchanar- This herb has cooling properties and can help balance kapha and pitta, two of the Ayurvedic doshas. It is known to address various conditions such as parasites, skin disorders, thyroid issues, and wounds. Kanchanar can also be beneficial for symptoms like abnormal bleeding, white discharge, emaciation, and cough.

  1. Shilajit- Shilajit is a well-known Indian herb with a wide range of properties. It can address kapha imbalances, fat metabolism, sugar regulation, kidney stones, and various health concerns such as urinary problems, asthma, anaemia, epilepsy, swelling, skin issues, and parasites.

  2. Chitraka- Chitraka has several therapeutic uses, including balancing kapha, aiding in healthy weight management, and promoting proper digestion and metabolism. Poor metabolism is a common symptom of PCOS, which can be managed with this herb.

  3. Ashoka- Traditionally used in Indian culture, Ashoka has a bitter and cooling nature. It helps eliminate toxins, enhances complexion, and is effective in treating bleeding and vaginal disorders.

  4. Turmeric- Turmeric is a well-known spice with curcumin as its active compound. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which can help combat inflammation, aid in weight management, and regulate menstrual cycles in cases of PCOS.

Managing PCOS requires not only incorporating Ayurvedic treatments but also making significant lifestyle changes. It's crucial to consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner or healthcare professional before adding these herbs to your diet, especially if you have any underlying health conditions.
