    The Deputy Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Dr. US Gautam, on Thursday, July 13, visited the KJ Chaupal at Krishi Jagran, Delhi. He was invited by the Founder & Editor-in-Chief, Krishi Jagran, MC Dominic and Shiny Dominic, Director, Krishi Jagran. Born to a humble farming family on January 23, 1963, Dr. Gautam's life was intertwined with the very essence of agriculture from an early age. As he completed his studies, he simultaneously immersed himself in the practical aspects of farming, gaining invaluable knowledge and experience that would shape his future endeavors.

  • Rice Exports of Most Varieties May be Banned in India: Report

    India is reportedly considering banning the exports of most rice varieties, following a surge in food inflation. As the world's largest rice exporter, this move by India could further elevate global prices for rice, especially with the return of the disruptive El Niño weather pattern. The government, led by Narendra Modi, is discussing a plan to prohibit the exports of all non-Basmati rice, aiming to mitigate the risk of increased inflation before upcoming elections. While such a ban could reduce rice prices within India, it may have a negative impact on global prices.

    According to the United States Department of Agriculture (2014), the agriculture sector in India has employed more than 50% of the population, contributing 17-18% of the GDP in the country. India is one of the largest exporters of agricultural products in the world. During the current financial year (Apr. 2022 – January 2023), the agricultural exports have amounted to USD 43.37 billion, registering an increase of 6.04% over the exports of USD 40.90 billion during the corresponding period of the previous financial year i.e., April 2021 to January 2022. During the financial year 2021-22, India’s agricultural export touched the highest-ever level of USD 50.21 billion. Among all the products, rice worth USD 9.65 bn has been exported from India.

  • Green India Mission: Nitin Gadkari Inaugurates Nationwide Tree Planting Campaign in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh

    Led by the Prime Minister, the Green India Mission aims to transform National Highways into environmentally sustainable Green Highways. As part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, NHAI organized this event to plant over 275,000 saplings in a single day across more than 300 designated locations, including NHAI-owned land, toll plazas, and Amrit Sarovar. The plantation drive received enthusiastic participation from public officials, civil society, NGOs, and students, promoting the importance of environmental sustainability. In his statement, Gadkari emphasized that this endeavour is in alignment with the Green India Mission (GIM), spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji. The primary objective of this mission is to transform our National Highways into environmentally sustainable Green Highways.

  • ITC Prioritizes Climate-Smart Agriculture to Enhance Farmer Income and Reduce Emissions

    Diversified conglomerate ITC Ltd emphasizes its commitment to developing climate-smart agriculture systems that address the environmental and social impacts of climate change in its annual report for 2023. The firm aims to boost farmer incomes, enhance the resilience of agri-value chains, increase productivity, and reduce emissions. The report highlights the positive outcomes of ITC's climate-smart agriculture program, which has already benefitted over seven lakh farmers across 17 states, covering 23 lakh acres. Notably, greenhouse gas emissions from select crops have been reduced by up to 66 percent, while net returns for farmers have increased by up to 90 percent between 2016 and 2021.
