IIT Mandi Uncovers Drought-Altitude Connection in Indus River Basin
The findings of the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi researchers have been published in the journal Atmospheric Research. Dr. Deepak Swami, Associate Professor, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, IIT Mandi, Dr. Vivek Gupta, Assistant Professor, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, IIT Mandi, and Dr. Nitin Joshi from the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Jammu along with their Ph. D scholar Mr. Amit Dubey from IIT Mandi have studied the relationship between elevation and drought characteristics. The study is centered on the Indus River basin in India, and provides valuable insights into water management and climate adaptation strategies for this region.

Punjab: Farmers Protesting at PSPCL Head Office Cut Water Intake
The ongoing farmers' protest outside the PSPCL head office in Patiala reached its fifth day on Monday, with a group of five farm unionists affiliated with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) deciding to limit their water consumption. The move was aimed at avoiding bathroom breaks due to their deteriorating health conditions. The protesters had initiated a fast unto death on Thursday, demanding the fulfillment of 24 demands related to power connections and supply. Interestingly, they also refused medical check-ups by doctors.

Singireddy Niranjan Reddy Warns Cotton Seed Suppliers Against Exploiting Farmers
The Agriculture Minister, Singireddy Niranjan Reddy gave a stern warning to seed supply agencies on Tuesday, cautioning them against taking advantage of cotton farmers. In an official statement, Minister Reddy expressed concerns about the exorbitant prices at which cotton seed was being sold in certain areas, emphasizing that such exploitative practices would not be tolerated say media reports.

Earthquake in India: 5.4 Magnitude Jolts Kashmir, Tremors Felt in Delhi-NCR; Twitter Reactions
An earthquake of 5.4 Richter scale jolted Kashmir on Tuesday at around 1: 30 pm, said the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). Tremours of this earthquake were felt in Delhi and the areas connected to it. The earthquake occurred 18 km away from Gandoh Bhalessa village in Jammu and Kashmir district Doda. Tremors were felt in parts of north India. According to a news report, tremors might have been felt in HP, Chandigarh, Punjab, and all adjoining areas. People on social media are posting live footage from the area where the earthquake rocked Srinagar.
