  • Precision Feeding: Optimizing Animal Nutrition Through Data Analytics & Precision Feeding Systems

Precision feeding is an effective approach to reduce feed costs, and environmental footprint, and to improve animal health and welfare. It involves modern multidisciplinary technologies such as mechanics, automation, electronics, and information technology. These tools collect data, such as body weight, feed intake, and feeding behaviour, from the individual animals. This data is then processed and analysed based on mathematical models to make predictions, and warning for farmers, or formulate diets that fit the requirements of each individual animal at each production period. It is important as a healthy balanced diet is fundamental to economic animal production. The objectives of these practices are to increase profitability and reduce the excretion of nutrients to the environment.

  • Inadequate Storage Facilities Leave Farmers in Sangrur Disappointed

Harjinder Singh, Lehra block press secretary of the BKU (Ugrahan) said, “Wheat lifting is slow. It seems the authorities want the grains to dry first. The recent rain and hailstorm spoiled wheat kept in the open in several villages. This has revealed the lack of the administration’s preparedness to procure wheat. The government should look after the issue.” Two days ago, hailstorms and rain lashed villages in the Lehra block and on March 31, there was heavy rain and hailstorm in many villages. According to the official figures, a total of 7,36,777 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat arrived in several grain markets of Malerkotla and Sangrur districts last evening.
