  • Rabi Crops Sowing in India Increases 4.4% Led by Wheat

    According to data from the Union Farm Ministry, farmers in India had planted rabi crops on 620.62 lakh hectares as of Friday, a 4.4% increase over the previous cropping season. The total acreage was 594.62 lakh hectares during the same period last year. Crop area is increasing across the board, with wheat leading the way. Wheat area increased by 9.65 lakh hectares from 302.61 to 312.26 lakh hectares, accounting for 25.99 lakh hectares of the total rabi crop increase of 25.99 lakh hectares. Though rabi crop sowing is still ongoing, the area brought under wheat this year (312.26) until 23-12-2022 is greater than the normal rabi sown area (304.47) and the total sown area of last year (304.70).

     

  • Tractor Rallies on January 26: SKM to Protest Against Rural Development Cess & Electricity Act Amendment Bill; Calls it Govt's Betrayal!

    In a meeting held in Haryana's Karnal, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) resolved to organize massive tractor rallies throughout the state to protest against government's plan to tax farmers for rural development. The farmer body demanded legal assurances for MSPs and denounced the BJP government for its 'anti-farmer' posture. The meeting demanded the withdrawal of the Rural Development Cess on farmers brought in by the Haryana government, and further condemned the government's betrayal of farmers by introducing the Electricity Act Amendment Bill in Parliament, which it had earlier assured to withdraw.

    The annual central rural work conference was held in Beijing on December 23 and 24. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China's Central Committee, Chinese president, and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), attended the conference and delivered an important speech. In 2020, the central leadership stated that the country's seed industry was a weak link in the food chain and that it needed to make better use of science and technology to turn things around. "It is necessary to keep an eye on the frontiers of agricultural science and technology around the world," Xi said at the rural work conference.

     

  • Uttarakhand CM Suggests Officers to Take Up Apple, Kiwi Production on Mission Mode

    CM Dhami stated during a review of the Cooperative Department at the Secretariat that in addition to promoting their products, special attention should be paid to branding, packaging, and marketing. He said that nodal officers should be appointed for each PAX to strengthen the PAX, with a special focus on strengthening Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) in the state. Dhami believes that by promoting a natural farming cluster approach, efforts should be made to connect cooperatives with natural farming. According to the Chief Minister, these local products must be promoted to the fullest extent possible by encouraging millet production in the state. Training and seminars for people associated with the cooperative should be organized regularly.

     

  • “Effective Policy Implementation Necessary for Agri-Horticulture Development in Arunachal”: Deputy CM

    Chowna Mein, who spent the day visiting a mega food park and an integrated farm in the Papumpare district, urged officials to expedite single-window clearance to facilitate the establishment of food processing units and Agro-based industries in the state. The food park is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'vocal for local' vision of doubling farmers' income and strengthening the economy. It will also create direct and indirect job opportunities for the region's youth. According to an official communiqué, the integrated farm, located 29 kilometres from the state capital, currently employs more than 300 skilled and unskilled unemployed youth.
