He stressed that the holistic approach should encompass both forest preservation and the welfare of the people dependent on them.

    Singh expressed his apprehensions regarding the procedural obstacles that have arisen since July 2023 in Mozambique, resulting in delays in the shipment of tur exports from the country. He kindly requested the High Commissioner to intervene and facilitate a seamless export of tur from Mozambique, similar to the Indian government's efforts to ensure smooth and hassle-free imports. In this context, Secretary, Consumer Affairs informed H.E. Ermindo A. Pereira about the pending tur export consignments at Mozambican ports and underscored the need for prompt clearance.

  • Agriculture Ministry Releases First Advance Estimates for Kharif Crop Production in 2023-24

    The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has recently unveiled the first Advance Estimates for the production of major Kharif crops in India for the 2023-24 season. These estimates are based on data provided by states and corroborated using information from various reliable sources, including the Crop Weather Watch Group (CWWG), remote sensing assessments, econometric models, farmer surveys, and historical crop estimation trends.

  • Wheat Procurement: Bidders Can Now Purchase 200 MT through OMSS (D) Starting November 1, 2023

    In an effort to enhance the availability of wheat in the open market and further stabilize wheat prices, the Government of India has taken significant steps to increase the quantity that bidders can purchase under the Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic) [OMSS (D)]. Effective November 1, 2023, the maximum quantity that a bidder can purchase has been raised from 100 metric tons (MT) to 200 MT. Additionally, the total quantity offered per e-auction across India has been increased from 2 lakh metric tons (LMT) to 3 LMT. These measures are part of the Government's larger initiative to intervene in the market and control the retail prices of essential commodities such as rice, wheat, and atta. As part of this initiative, weekly e-auctions for both wheat and rice are organized to ensure a stable and fair market for these essential food items.

  • India's Mango Exports Surge to USD 47.98 Million in Fiscal Year 2023-24

    India has made significant strides in the export of mangoes during the first five months of the current fiscal year, 2023-24, thanks to the relentless efforts of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The nation has recorded a substantial increase in mango exports, with a total value of USD 47.98 million, marking a remarkable 19 percent growth compared to the previous fiscal year, when mango exports stood at USD 40.33 million for the same period. This impressive growth is the result of a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and APEDA. In the fiscal year 2022-23, India exported 22,963.78 metric tons of mangoes, generating revenue of USD 48.53 million. In contrast, during the current fiscal year from April to August, India exported a substantial 27,330.02 metric tons of mangoes, with a total export value of USD 47.98 million.
