Tomar Addresses National Conference on 'International Year of Fruits & Vegetables'

ICAR-SBI Celebrates 110th Foundation Day
The ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute (SBI), Coimbatore celebrated its 110th Foundation Day last week. In his Foundation Day speech, the Chief Guest, Dr. N. Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), said that the “Co” varieties from the ICAR-SBI still dominate the varietal scene in many African countries.

Centre Releases Third Advance Estimates of Area & Production of Horticultural Crops of 2020-21
The Government has released 2020-21 (Third Advance Estimates) of Area and Production of different Horticultural Crops, compiled on the basis of information received from States/ UTs and other Governmental source agencies. Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar informed that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, due to the farmer-friendly policies of the government, tireless hard work of farmers and research of scientists, horticulture production in the year 2020-21 is estimated to be a record 331.05 million tonnes. This shows an increase of 10.6 million tonnes (3.3%) over 2019-20.

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries, together with the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) has launched the first ‘One District, One Product’ ‘Dilli Bakes’ in the bakery products category of Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme on 29 October 2021 at Panchsheel Bhawan, New Delhi.

Minister of Food Processing Industries Chairs Meeting of Inter-Ministerial Approval Committee
Pashupati Kumar Paras, Union Minister for Ministry of Food Processing Industries chaired the Inter-Ministerial Approval Committee (IMAC) meeting through video conferencing today to consider the proposals received under the Scheme for Creation of Infrastructure for Agro-Processing Cluster (APC) of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY). Minister of State for Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Prahlad Singh Patel along with senior officials of the Ministry and promoters of projects were also present in meeting.
