The term hydroponic is derived from two Greek roots: hydro-, which means "water," and ponein, which means "to labor, labor, or toil." Hydroponic plants are those that are grown using specific nutrients mixed with water rather than traditional soil beds. Although the roots of hydroponic plants are sometimes floating in liquid, other non-soil elements such as gravel or coir are frequently employed.
