A tehsil or tahsil/tahasil, commonly referred to as a taluka or mandal, is a division of government in various South Asian nations. It is a geographical region having a city or town as its administrative center, sometimes other towns, and typically a number of villages. The terminologies in India have taken the place of the previous terminology for human geography used under the Delhi Sultanate and British Raj, such as pargana, pergunnah, and thannah.
