Food processing sector provides a vital linkage and synergy between agriculture and industry. It helps to diversify and commercialize farming; enhance the income of farmers; create markets for the export of agro foods as well as generate greater employment opportunities. The Eastern region of India is endowed with colossal natural resources.
It has rich soils, abundant water resources and favourable climate. In the food and agro-processing sector, West Bengal is one of the three front-running states in India. Fruits, Vegetables and Cereals grave in abundance in West Bengal. Thus, West Bengal in terms of agriculture is the largest producer of rice, pineapple, vegetables and fruits in the country, the second-largest producer of potatoes and lychees.
The food processing sector with allied services such as logistics and storage industry of Bengal impacts the business ecosystem of the region and the neighbouring countries of Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan.
With this perspective in view, ASSOCHAM in partnership with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Govt. of India is organizing a program in the state of Bengal on “Food Processing Opportunities in Bengal & Buyer Seller Meet”. with a focus on various union & state Govt. schemes and food processing opportunities. The program shall also focus on linking entrepreneurs with partners for forwarding linkages.
The program shall also focus on ways to promote the state\'s economic vibrancy in terms of trade and commerce, buyer-seller interactions, and logistics, thus enabling sustainable and inclusive development.
