Sebastian Fuchs, spokesperson for the German Embassy, visited Krishi Jagran's office in New Delhi on May 23, 2024. At KJ Chaupal, he highlighted Germany's commitment to India's green transformation through the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP), highlighting initiatives such as sustainable farming and green mobility while underscoring the importance of Indo-German collaboration for sustainable development.
Fuchs was warmly welcomed by M C Dominic, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Krishi Jagran, and Shiny Dominic, Managing Director of Krishi Jagran. Shortly, a video tracing Krishi Jagran's journey from its inception to the present was showcased.
In his address, Fuchs expressed his happiness to see many young faces. Remarking on India's rich diversity, he informed that Germany is engaged with India in various areas, including military cooperation, security, and defense. He highlighted the special collaboration known as the GSDP initiative. The German Embassy recently launched the GSDP Conversation Series with India, marking a significant step in advancing the Indo-German Partnership for Green and Sustainable Development. This partnership, signed on May 22, 2022, by Prime Minister Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, underscores Germany’s role as a strong partner for India in the field of sustainable development, including agriculture.
“Germany is contributing 1 billion euros annually to support India's green transformation under the GSDP. This partnership encompasses initiatives in green energy transition, green mobility, biodiversity restoration, agroecology, and natural resource management. For example, we trained women fish sellers in Kerala to ride bicycles, enabling them to reach clients more quickly and sustainably, thereby increasing their profits. We believe that India's participation is crucial in effectively combating climate change, which is why we are committed to this substantial financial support. Under the GSDP, we are engaged in numerous projects that promote sustainable farming. In Germany, organic supermarkets are found every few hundred meters, highlighting the significant potential of agriculture not only to enhance economic sustainability but also to positively impact public health,” he added.
Furthermore, he commended MC Dominic for forming a media organization to help connect and network agriculture communities. Fuchs praised the idea as wonderful and expressed his fascination with the concept of farmers' training, which enables farmers to share their inspiring stories.
The insightful event concluded with a Vote of Thanks followed by a group photograph to mark the occasion.
