India is the world's fifth largest crop seed producer, with quality crop seed production increasing from 131.6 million metric tonnes in 2017 to 132 million metric tonnes in 2019. This is due to increased domestic demand for food, with consumption of various crops increasing by 18.0%, 16.3%, and 6.0 percent respectively between 2016 and 2020.
The goal of this webinar was to exchange experiences and perspectives among policymakers and Agri experts in the Indian seed industry, as well as current trends and future perspectives. Seed is life for farmers. Every seed's integrity and sanctity should be preserved and protected.
Recognizing the significance of seeds, International Seeds Day is observed every year on April 26th, 2022. This day is dedicated to promoting patent-free seeds, non-GMO natural seeds, and farmer rights. Though the government issued a seed policy in 2002 and a seed policy in 2019, they were never implemented due to a lack of political will.
Seed resilience is defined as "the adaptability and capacity to contribute to food and nutrition security by making sufficient, diverse, locally adapted, improved, high-quality varieties available to all farmers while taking environmental, health, social, and economic factors into account."
Join us for this session to learn how the road to resilience starts with crop seed. In light of the foregoing, Krishi Jagran will host a webinar on April 26th, 2022, at 4 PM, with the theme "Time to Conserve, Protect, and Revive Indigenous Seeds."
