  • Niti Aayog Member Predicts India's Potential to Become a Global Power in Agriculture Commodities Market

    On Saturday, Ramesh Chand, a Niti Aayog member said that India can emerge as a global power in the selected three or four agricultural yields if the government seeks modernization and motivates corporates to invest in agriculture. While ensuring food security and taking part in the panel session on ‘Can India be the food bowl for the World at the Food Conclave here, he spoke that to become a global leader, India could look at rice, milk, and sugar as commodities.

     

  • Samyukt Kisan Morcha Plans Nationwide Protests from May to November

    On Sunday, from May till November, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha announced a series of countrywide protests culminating between August 1 and 15 to press its demands for legally guaranteed minimum support prices, a comprehensive crop insurance scheme, and farmer pensions. The decision was taken at a national meeting of the Morcha on Sunday, an umbrella organization of farmer unions that had led the yearlong farmer agitation of 2020-21. The Morcha said that from May 26 to May 31, the agitations will be held in all the states and Union territories.

  • Punjab Agriculture Department Advises Farmers to Prepare Wheat Seed Themselves

    Forecasting the rise in the price of wheat seeds owing to crop loss following the rough weather conditions, the Punjab Agriculture Department has appealed to farmers to develop their own wheat seeds for the next cropping season instead of shelling out extra money to acquire it from the seed yielding agencies. Agro-scientists feared that rough weather conditions could damage the wheat crops to the extent that the grains did not have better quality enough for use as seeds, but during the harvesting of the crops, it has been found that the wheat crops that stood straight against the fluctuation of weather conditions did not lose quality and lustre giving a ray of hope to develop seeds for the next cropping season.

    The State of Andhra Pradesh has become the first state in the Union of India to get the IndG.A.P Certification from the Quality Council of India (QCI). Andhra Pradesh has established about 10,778 Rythu Bharosa Kendralu (RBK) across the state in all Gram Panchayatswhich are acting as One Stop Centres for Farmers to get all the Farm input and agri & allied sector services. Through the RBKs, the state has been implementing the Farmer Field School (FFS) programme through which the Farmers are being trained on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
