  • Ujjwala Yojana Beneficiaries to Receive Increased LPG Subsidy, Raised from ₹200 to ₹300 Per Cylinder by Govt

    The government announced an increase in the subsidy for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries today. Union Minister Anurag Thakur shared this information during a media briefing. The subsidy for LPG cylinders under the scheme has been raised from Rs 200 to Rs 300. In September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a Union Cabinet meeting where it was decided to provide an additional 75 lakh LPG connections to women through the Ujjwala scheme. This expansion will be implemented over the next three years and is expected to cost Rs 1650 crore.

  • PUSA 44 Paddy Variety to be Banned from Next Kharif Season, Says Punjab CM

    Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that the state government will prohibit the cultivation of the water-intensive PUSA-44 variety of paddy crop starting from the next Kharif season. He made this statement while launching paddy procurement operations and encouraged farmers to avoid burning crop residue. Mann emphasized the importance of a smooth and trouble-free procurement process for the current Kharif Marketing Season, starting on October 1, and pledged to purchase all of the farmers' grains. He urged farmers to discontinue the cultivation of PUSA 44 paddy because it takes longer to mature and produces more crop residue compared to other varieties.

    A five-day training course on "Mushroom Cultivation for Winter Season" recently concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), with participation from 32 mushroom growers. The program, tailored for both farmers and farm women, was led by Dr GS Buttar, Director of Extension Education at PAU. Dr TS Riar, Associate Director (Skill Development) and Additional Director of Communication emphasized that mushroom cultivation has become a lucrative venture for farmers of all scales, including small, marginal, and large. The course provided comprehensive insights into cultivation techniques, processing, marketing strategies, and available loan options for aspiring mushroom growers.
