• India Becomes World’s Largest Producer & Consumer of Sugar: Food Ministry

  During the Sugar Season (October-September) 2021-22, the country produced a record of more than 5000 Lakh Metric Tons (LMT) sugarcane, of which approximately 3574 LMT was crushed by sugar mills to produce approximately 394 LMT of sugar (Sucrose). 35 LMT sugar was diverted to ethanol production, while sugar mills produced 359 LMT sugar. 

• Sona Machinery Opens Its First Overseas Office in Nairobi to Strengthen Global Presence

  Sona Machinery, an undisputed leader in the agro-processing equipment manufacturing industry, has announced plans to open its first overseas office in Nairobi, Kenya, in a move that will strengthen its global market presence. The expansion aims to strengthen the brand's global presence as well as its market footprint in Africa. • DA&FW and NAFED Signed MoU to Boost International Year of Millets-2023

  A Memorandum of Understanding was signed recently in New Delhi between the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to promote millets in preparation for the International Year of Millets in 2023.

• WSO to Host 1st National Spice Conference to Build Food Safety Awareness

  World Spice Organization (WSO), a not-for-profit technical partner of the All-India Spices Exporters Forum (AISEF), is organizing the first National Spice Conference (NSC) in Mumbai at Holiday Inn Mumbai International Airport on 6th and 7th October 2022. WSO is organizing this in collaboration with GIZ and IDH- the Sustainable Trade Initiative.
