Assam to Host Conclaves on Agriculture Value Chain Financing
A series of Value-Chain Financing Conclaves is set to kick off in Assam from October 12 to November 2, with the ambitious goal of bringing about a transformation in the agricultural sector. This innovative initiative, known as the Agri Value-Chain Financing Conclave, aims to bridge the knowledge gap and introduce effective financing tools to ensure seamless financial services in agriculture. Organized by the Assam Rural Infrastructure and Agricultural Services Society (ARIAS) as part of the state-run Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project, these conclaves will be conducted in four key zones: Silchar, Jorhat, Morigaon, and Lakhimpur. The target audience includes farmers, farmer interest groups (FIGs), farmer producer companies (FPCs), self-help groups (SHGs), and traders hailing from 12 different districts of Assam.

India and Saudi Arabia Collaborate to Foster Investments in New and Renewable Energy
India and Saudi Arabia have agreed to promote investments in each other’s countries in the new and renewable energy sector. On the second day of his visit yesterday, Union Power & NRE Minister R.K. Singh held bilateral discussions with Saudi Minister of Investment H.E. Khalid Al-Falih. Later on, Singh addressed a gathering of Saudi business personalities and investors and invited them to invest in India in the new and renewable energy sectors like solar energy, wind power, green hydrogen etc. All major business houses in Saudi Arabia including ACWA Power, Alfanar, AWJ Energy, Almajdouie, Abdulkarim, Aljomaih Energy and Water Company, Kanoo Industrial & Energy, L&T, Nesma Renewable Energy, Petromin, NextGen Infra participated in the meet.

ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig, Guwahati Completes Genome Sequencing of Pig Breeds Ghungroo and Mali
The genome sequencing of two indigenous breeds of pigs, namely Ghungroo and Mali has been successfully completed up to the chromosome level. The esearch work has been carried out at ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig, Rani, Guwahati. Along with the indigenous breeds, genome sequencing of two exotic breeds of pigs, Hampshire and Large White Yorkshire (LWY) have also been completed up to the chromosome level, for which onlyrscaffold-level assemblies were available.The mean size of the genome is about 2.55GB which contains about 40% of repetitive elements, with only a few minor differences between various pig genomes.

ICAR-CSSRI Hosts Rabi Kisan Mela 2023 in Karontha Village, Rohtak
The ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute in Karnal recently organized a Rabi Kisan Mela in the village of Karontha, located in the Rohtak district. The event was inaugurated by Dr Satbir Singh Kadian, the Chief Executive Officer of the Haryana Water Resources Authority. Dr Kadian encouraged farmers to adopt smart farming practices, including the use of smart seeds and technologies, especially given the changing climate conditions. He also urged young farmers to actively participate in agriculture, combining their education with traditional knowledge and modern agricultural techniques. Dr Kadian emphasized the importance of diversifying agricultural activities by including vegetable cultivation alongside traditional crop production to meet the growing food demands. He stressed the significance of soil health cards as a means to preserve soil and water resources for future generations.
