  • Chhattisgarh Surpasses Target for Rabi Crops, Experiments with Rubber Plantations

    Agriculture department officials said rabi crops had been sown in 1.936 million hectares, which is exceeding the target of 1.925 million hectares. Chhattisgarh, a state located in central India, has exceeded its target for sowing rabi crops this year. The Agriculture Department officials reported that rabi crops had been sown in 1.936 million hectares, surpassing the target of 1.925 million hectares. In the previous year, rabi crops were sown in 1.83 million hectares, and with a 5% increase in the current season, the sowing target was set at 1.925 million hectares.

    The cultivation of cotton is going to be huge this marketing year as 4 million acres of land are being used for cotton cultivation in Punjab with Rs. 8,500/40KG support price and Rs. 1,000 subsidy. A spokesman says to use fertile land and approved BT varieties for a good result. On Monday, an agriculture spokesman said that nearly four million acres are being utilized for cotton cultivation in Punjab. He also directed farmers to sow approved and registered varieties to get better production results. 

     

  • ICAR- IVRI Study Says Fresh Cow Urine Is Harmful to Human Consumption

    The Bareilly-based ICAR - Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) has revealed that fresh cow urine may hold harmful bacteria which is not suitable for human consumption. The research also states that the urine of buffalo is more effective on certain bacteria. A study headed by Bhoj Raj Singh and his three Ph.D. scholars at the country’s reckoned animal research body located in Bareilly states that fresh cow urine contains infectious bacteria and is not suitable for human consumption.

  • Chandigarh Rejects Proposal to Cut 1,300 Trees to Make Railway Station ‘World-Class’

    The Forest and Wildlife Department of the Union Territory has denied permission to the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) to chop down around 1,300 trees located on railway land as part of the Chandigarh Railway Station redevelopment project. Officials said that more than 1,000 trees are located on the Panchkula side exit of the railway station, with the rest being located on the Chandigarh side.
