  • Kharif Crop Sowing Surpasses 1,088 Lakh Hectares: Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare

    The Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare has released the progress of area coverage under kharif crops as of September 8, 2023. The data reveals that the sowing area of Kharif crops crosses 1,088 lakh hectares in 2023 with the rice sowing area surpassing the 400 lakh hectares mark, the sugarcane area being at 59.91 lakh hectares, and Shri Anna/Coarse cereals sown at 182 lakh hectares. Among the pulses Arhar, Urdbean, and Moongbean saw a downfall in the area covered by 2.69, 5.19, and 2.56 respectively in 2023. Only Kulthi saw an increase of just 0.02 lakh hectares in 2023.

    India will show the world a new path on biofuels through the Global Biofuels Alliance, stated Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs. Expressing his views through a series of posts on the social media platform ‘X’ the Minister noted that following the mantra of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, this effort of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will definitely reduce the dependence on petrol and diesel across the world. Creating history in the global energy sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) on the sidelines of the G20 Summit yesterday. 19 countries and 12 international organizations have already agreed to join the alliance.

  • Absolute Bioscience Receives Grants From Xamahar Assam AgriFin Fund Working in Collaboration with World Bank

    Absolute’s tech driven Agri value chain business Upaj, has been awarded a grant from Xamahar - Assam AgriFin Fund to transform the livestock, fisheries, and horticulture sector in Assam. Xamahar is a challenge agriculture fund, a competitive funding mechanism to support innovative approaches, especially by the private sector, and deliver financial services at scale for farmers in key agriculture value chains in Assam. It is funded by the World Bank and is being implemented by the Assam Rural Infrastructure and Agricultural Services (ARIAS), as the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART). The purpose of Xamahar – Assam Agrifin Fund is to support testing and/or scaling-up of tested innovations by financial service providers (banks, MFIs, value chain financiers, insurance companies, payments service providers) that increase access to financial services (savings, payments, insurance, and credit) among agriculture value chains in Assam.

  • E-auction Results in Center Selling 1.66 LMT Wheat and 0.17 LMT Rice

    As a part of the Government of India’s initiative for market intervention to control the retail price of rice, wheat, and atta, weekly e-auctions of both wheat and rice are organized. The 11th e-auction of 2023-24 was held on September 6, 2023. A quantity of 2.0 LMT wheat from 500 depots and 4.89 LMT rice from 337 depots were offered from across the country. In the e-auction, 1.66 LMT wheat and 0.17 LMT rice was sold. The weighted average selling price was Rs. 2169.65/qtl for FAQ wheat against the reserve price of Rs. 2150/qtl Pan India whereas the weighted average selling price of URS wheat was Rs. 2150.86/qtl against the reserve price of Rs. 2125/qtl.
