The Bihar government is actively promoting poultry farming to create jobs and increase egg production in rural areas. They have launched the "Integrated Poultry Development Scheme," providing financial assistance and interest exemptions on bank loans. For the fiscal year 2023-24, specific targets include supporting farms with 10,000-layer poultry and a feed mill, as well as 5,000-layer poultry farms. Applications from all segments of the state are welcome until September 15.

Poultry Farm Subsidy Offered By Government

The Bihar government plans to provide grants to establish farms with capacities of 10,000- and 5,000-layer poultry. The grant amounts vary depending on the category of farmers, and these amounts are as follows:

General Caste People

The Animal Husbandry Department has assessed the unit cost for a 10,000-layer hen poultry farm, which includes a feed mill, at Rs 1 crore. They will provide a grant of up to Rs 30 lakh (30 per cent of the cost) to the beneficiary, along with a 50 per cent interest subsidy on their bank loan for four years.

For a 5,000-layer poultry farm, the unit cost is Rs 48.50 lakh, and the beneficiary can receive a grant of up to Rs 14.55 lakh (30 per cent of the cost) and a 50 per cent interest subsidy on their bank loan for four years from the Animal Husbandry Department.

The Animal Husbandry Department offers support for establishing poultry farms with varying capacities:

For a poultry farm with 10,000-layer hens:

  • Total cost: Rs 1 crore

  • Grant: Up to 40% of the cost, capped at Rs 40 lakh

  • Interest subsidy: 50% on bank loans for four years

For a poultry farm with 5,000-layer hens:

  • Total cost: Rs 48.50 lakh

  • Grant: Up to 40% of the cost, up to Rs 19.40 lakh

  • Interest subsidy: 50% on bank loan interest for four years

These incentives are available to eligible individuals looking to enter the poultry farming industry, helping to reduce their financial burden and promote poultry farming in the region.

Requirements To Open A Poultry Farm

The recipient of these benefits must secure suitable land for their layer poultry farm, which can either be self-owned, inherited, or leased. In the case of ancestral land, all legal heirs, including the living father (if applicable), must jointly submit a no-objection affidavit.

The designated land should meet certain criteria:

  • It should be located 500 meters away from residential areas.

  • It should be situated at least 100 meters from a significant water source and the National Highway (N.H.).

  • It must have a minimum distance of 50 meters from the State Highway (S.H.) and 10 meters from a rural road, National Park, or forest.

  • The land should be approximately 1 kilometre away from an animal sanctuary or tiger reserve to ensure the safety of wildlife.

  • Additionally, there should be 20 feet of road access meeting the specified distance requirements for convenient transportation, and it should remain connected to the Ft. route.

Necessary Documents Required To Apply

Here are the required documents for the application:

  • A picture of the applicant.

  • A copy of the Aadhar Card.

  • Proof of residence.

  • Caste certificate (only mandatory for SC/ST applicants).

  • A photocopy of the bank account passbook.

  • A copy of the PAN card.

  • Documentation confirming land availability.

  • A visual map of the proposed site.

  • At the time of application, the applicant should also include a photocopy of the required amount.

  • Copies of lease agreements, private property ownership, or ancestral land ownership details.

  • Evidence of completed poultry farming training.

How To Apply For Opening A Poultry Farm And Subsidy

The Bihar Animal Husbandry Department is welcoming online applications for the Integrated Poultry Development Scheme. Those who are interested can apply on the Animal Husbandry Department's website at state.bihar.gov.in/ahd/. To apply, you will need to register using your Aadhaar number or voter card number. During the online application process, ensure that you upload all the necessary documents. Therefore, before applying, make sure to scan and prepare copies of all the required documents in PDF format.
