African Development Bank Group Pledges Nearly USD 74 mn to Boost Wheat Production in Sudan
The African Development Bank Group's Board of Directors approved $73.81 million to finance the Sudan Emergency Wheat Production Project through the Bank's African Emergency Food Production Facility on December 9, 2022 in Abidjan. Sudan, the world's third-largest country by land area, has long experienced extreme food insecurity due to various factors, including economic decline and hyperinflation, conflict-induced population displacement, and poor agricultural harvests.

UPASI Demands More Funds for Plantation Sector in Union Budget 2023-24
The United Planters' Association of Southern India (UPASI) has urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to consider increasing allocations for the plantation sector in the Union Budget 2023-24, citing the urgent need for increased research funding. The plantation sector has suffered due to significant reductions in funds allocated to commodity boards in previous budgets, as the boards cannot implement developmental schemes and disburse dues to growers under various schemes.
