Bird Flu Outbreak Hits Kerala's Alappuzha: Signs, Symptoms, and Prevention Measures
A sudden outbreak of bird flu, specifically the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1, has struck Kerala's Alappuzha district. This strain of avian influenza primarily affects poultry, with mass infections reported among birds in the region. The current outbreak in Alappuzha is linked to the H5N1 virus clade 2.3.4.4b, first identified in Europe in 2020. This strain has caused widespread fatalities among birds and mammals, with reported cases of human infection and even human-to-human transmission.
