  • United States Department of Agriculture tightens eligibility norms for farm subsidies

    According to a small-farm advocate, the United States Department of Agriculture or USDA is tightening its crop subsidy norms by limiting who can collect a payment for running a farm, historically one of its most porous definitions. The new rules that will be published next week requires people to do at least 500 hours of management or at least 25 percent of the management work required yearly to merit a subsidy check — “a very major advancement”.

    According to the weather channel, a well-marked low pressure located over north Bay of Bengal is slowly moving westward. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely over Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha on Wednesday (26th Aug), over Chhattisgarh & eastern Madhya Pradesh on Thursday (27th Aug), and over Madhya Pradesh on Friday (28th Aug) before declining.  In addition, Delhi and NCR is also likely to witness rainfall in the weekend.

    The much-awaited trial of Coronavirus vaccine made by the University of Oxford has begun in India on 26th August 2020. Serum Institute of India, Pune collaborated with AstraZeneca to manufacture the Covid-19 vaccine candidate for the country and low-and-middle income nations.

    Serum Institute of India, world’s biggest vaccine manufacturer by volume has selected 17 sites in the country to conduct the Phase II trial of Oxford Coronavirus vaccine. A total of 1,600 candidates would take part in the study.
