  • President of India pays homage to K.R. Narayanan on his birth anniversary 

    The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind paid homage to K.R. Narayanan, former President of India, on his birth anniversary at Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 27.  

  • PM Modi interacts with SVANidhi beneficiaries from Uttar Pradesh  

    Preeti from Agra greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring a loan for her under the SVANidhi loan scheme, which enabled her to tide over the adverse times of pandemic lockdown. 

    Preeti sold vegetables for a living during the pre-COVID-19 times and is now selling fruits on a cart in Agra. 

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi patiently listened to her experiences and appreciated her efforts to ensure digital payment. He explained to her that she could earn cashback and make the loan interest-free. 

  • PM extends greetings on the occasion of 74th Infantry Day Celebrations  

    To honour the supreme sacrifice of the Infantry in fighting the Pakistani raiders in Jammu and Kashmir in 1947, the 74th Infantry Day was celebrated with traditional solemnity and gaiety following all COVID-19 precautions. 

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Greetings to all ranks of our courageous infantry on the special occasion of Infantry Day. India is proud of the role played by the infantry in protecting our nation. Their bravery continues to motivate millions.” 

  • India records lowest daily new cases of COVID-19 after three months 

    India has achieved several significant milestones in its fight against COVID-19. The new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours have fallen below 36,500 (36,470) for the first time in three months. The new cases were 34,884 on July 18, 2020. With a high number of COVID-19 patients recovering every day and the sustained fall in the mortality rate, India’s steady trend of registering dipping active cases continues. 

    In another achievement, the active cases have drastically declined to 6.25 lakh. The total positive cases of the country are 6,25,857 and now comprise merely 7.88 per cent of the total cases. 

  • India, US need to jointly confront China's threats to security says, Pompeo  

    US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo today in the national capital said, “India and the US need to jointly confront China's threats to security in the Indian subcontinent and the Indo-Pacific.” 

    Speaking at the third India-US 2+2 ministerial dialogue in New Delhi, amidst the ongoing face-off between Indian and Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh, Pompeo discussed several issues from "cooperating on defeating the pandemic that originated in Wuhan, to confronting the Chinese Communist Party's threats to security and freedom, to promoting peace and stability throughout the region". 

     

  • Bihar phase 2 polls: 502 candidates have criminal cases 

    Out of the 1,463 candidates in the poll fray in the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, 502 have criminal cases against them of which 389 are serious, a report claimed on October 27. 

    The report was released by the Bihar Election Watch and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) after analysing the self-sworn affidavits of all the 1,463 candidates contesting in the Bihar Assembly Elections Phase II. The second phase of the polls is scheduled in 94 Assembly constituencies in 17 districts on November 3. 

     

  • Athawale & Sunil Tatkare tests COVID-19 positive 

    Union Minister of State for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale and Nationalist Congress Party MP from Raigad Sunil Tatkare have tested positive for COVID-19. 

    Athawale, 60, had attended a crowded function in Mumbai on October 26 when actresses Payal Ghosh, Soni Kanishka, lawyer Nitin Satpute, realtor Yogesh Karkera and businessman Ankush Chaphekar, formally joined the Republican Party of India (A). 

  • Hizb chief Salahuddin declared terrorist under UAPA 

    The government has declared 18 more individuals as terrorists under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 including Hizbul Mujahideen Chief Syed Salahuddin involved in the Mumbai terror attack as well as the IC 814 hijacking. 

    The MHA in a statement said, “Under the strong and iron-willed leadership of the Prime Minister, the central government had amended the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 in August 2019, to include the provision of designating an individual as a terrorist. Prior to this amendment, only organizations could be designated as terrorist organizations," the statement said.
