• APEDA Flagged off First Consignment of Kaipad Rice & Its Value-Added Products to UAE

  Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India facilitated the flag off of the first consignment of GI Tagged “Kaipad Rice& its value-added products” from Kannur, Kerala to UAE virtually on 26th October 2022. The flag-off ceremony was organized under the direction of Dr. M Angamuthu IAS, Chairman, APEDA & under the chairmanship of Dr. Tarun Bajaj, Director, APEDA. 

• Rural Development Minister Faggan Singh Kulaste Inaugurates Saras Food Festival 2022

  He also launched the e-commerce portal www.esaras.in for better and more effective marketing of Saras products prepared by women of self-help groups. The minister said the Rural Development Ministry will take steps to establish Saras stalls by women SHGs in all State capitals, major cities, metros, airports, and railway stations to widen its reach. Kulaste said that more and more people will be exposed to ethnic & homemade handicrafts, paintings, toys, food & other items. He added that each woman beneficiary must save at least 1 lakh rupees per year through sale of local products.

• Farmers in Jalandhar Honoured for Not Burning Paddy Stubble

  For not burning rice stubble for more than five years, Jalandhar district administration on Friday presented appreciation certificates titled "Vaatavarn De Rakhwale" to more than 100 farmers from various blocks. Progressive farmers were recognized for their efforts to maintain the environment pollution-free from the following blocks: Adampur, Bhogpur, Jalandhar East and West, Lohian, Nakodar, Nurmahal, Phillaur, Rurka Kalan, and Shahkot.

• Government Extends Ban on Sugar Exports Till October 2023

  India, the largest producer of sugar in the world, has restricted exports till October 2023 to prevent a spike in domestic prices brought on by record exports. According to government and industry officials, India is expected to produce a record sugar crop this year, allowing New Delhi to permit exports of up to 8 million tonnes. India's sugar exports increased by 57% to 109.8 lakh tonnes in the 2021–22 marketing year, which ended in September, bringing in foreign currency of nearly Rs 40,000 crore.

   

• Congress to Remove GST on Handlooms, Give Land Rights to Tribals if Voted to Power in Telangana: Rahul Gandhi

  Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi promised tribal farmers and Telangana weavers that the Congress would protect land rights if it wins the upcoming state election and would also abolish the GST on handlooms. Gandhi interacted with weavers and tribal farmers at Gopalpur Kalan village of Devarkadra block in Mahabubnagar district for more than an hour on the third day of his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Telangana.
