Deblossoming

The act of removing flowers, whether they are spent or not, from living plants, serves various purposes such as promoting the subsequent growth, reproduction, overall health, or appearance of the plant's non-flower components. This practice, known as deblossoming, is often employed to redirect the plant's limited resources away from its sexual reproductive efforts and towards its vegetative propagation, such as root and runner development. It is typically performed early in the life of a perennial plant to enable it to establish and mature before channeling resources into reproduction. Additionally, deblossoming can be carried out towards the end of the growing season to enhance the size and quality of existing fruits, seeds, or other valuable crop parts by diverting energy and nutrients away from new flower buds that may not have sufficient time to develop into useful crops.
