Fungicides

Fungicides are chemicals that are used to kill or prevent the growth of fungi. If your lovely roses are suffering from mildew, you may need to treat them with fungicide.

The term Fungicide is formed by adding the suffix -cide, or "killer," to the word fungus, which means "mushroom" in Latin. So, much as matricide refers to the killing of one's mother and pesticide refers to the killing of pests, fungicide refers to the killing of fungi. You'll probably need a fungicide to get rid of a fungus developing on your bathroom ceiling or on your brinjal plants.
