Pannage

Pannage is a practice in forestry and animal husbandry where domestic pigs are allowed to forage and graze in a forest or wooded area, typically during a specific period, such as autumn. This practice is employed to help control the undergrowth, clear fallen acorns, and reduce the population of insects in the forest, while also providing food for the pigs. Pannage has historical roots and is still utilized in some regions as a means of managing forest ecosystems and supporting traditional agricultural practices.
