Ratooning

Ratooning is the agricultural practice of harvesting a monocot crop plant by cutting off most of its above-ground portion while preserving the roots and shoot apices. This method allows the plant to recover and regrow, yielding a fresh crop in the following growing season.

However, this process is usually limited to a few seasons as the crop's yield tends to decrease with each subsequent harvest.

Examples of ratoon crops include sugarcane, pineapples, and bananas.
