The ICAR-Directorate of Groundnut Research, Junagadh organized a “Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition” for the groundnut farmers of Saurashtra Region. The Chief Guest was Dr. Chetan Trivedi, Vice-Chancellor, Bhaktakavi Narasimh Mehta University of Junagadh.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Radhakrishnan, Director, ICAR-DGR highlighted the importance of groundnut’s use as a food crop and the high oleic acid varieties Girnar-4 and Girnar-5. He also urged the farmers for adopting the improved technologies for doubling the farmers’ income.
The progressive farmers narrated their experiences in deriving additional benefits from the groundnut cultivation. Around 33 innovative farmers were honored for their innovations during the occasion.
The main objective of the Mela was to provide the farmers with the information and guidance about the use of various chemical fertilizers in groundnut crops on the basis of soil testing.
The senior officials of ICAR Institutes and State Government Department were also present during the occasion.
The Mela registered a total footfall of more than 850 farmers including more than 200 women farmers.
