About Aloe Vera Farming:

These days the demand for aloe vera is increasing rapidly because of the harsh summer heat. From cosmetics to ayurvedic formulas, it’s in demand everywhere.

Its cultivation is quite a trend in India these days. Aloe vera farming doesn’t require much moisture and is grown in fields where there is no stagnation of water. This is why sandy soil is considered the best for aloe vera cultivation.

It is also necessary to clean the field from time to time. Aloe vera is also prone to pests so it is necessary to use insecticides to protect the plants. However, avoid using urea or DAP as pesticides for aloe vera.

There are many species of aloe vera however, Barbadensis (aloe vera barbadensis) species should be used for better earnings and are also popular among growers.

It is used to make aloe vera juice as well as ingredients in cosmetic products. Growers prefer this type over the others as this type has bigger leaves which means more gel production. Indigo species, which is usually seen in homes, is also considered a good type of plant for aloe vera farming.

When and how to do aloe vera farming:

Aloe vera can be sown from October-November. However, growers can sow it all year round and face no loss. While sowing, make sure that the distance between one plant to another is 2 feet. Once planted, a single aloe vera plant can be harvested twice a year.

Over 12,000 aloe vera plants can be planted in the one-acre field. The cost of an aloe vera plant ranges from Rs 3-4. i.e., in one acre about Rs 40,000 will be spent on cultivating aloe vera. Up to 4 kg of leaves are harvested from one aloe vera plant and one leave of aloe vera costs between Rs. 7-8.

This can bring in a huge profit margin. Apart from selling the leaves, you can also earn money by extracting the gel, and selling it to the companies. By only selling the aloe vera leaves, you can earn lakhs with just one acre of aloe vera plants. As your business grows, you can expand the land of cultivation and soon you will become a crorepati.
