GADVASU Honours 3 Progressive Farmers with Chief Minister Award

To motivate different types of livestock farmers, the GADVASU organises innovative competitions that assess the extent and impact of these technologies' adoption in improving the productivity and profitability of various livestock farming systems.

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana conferred Chief Minister awards to three livestock farmers on the 23rd of September. S. Bhagwant Mann, the Chief Minister of Punjab, presented these awards during an impressive ceremony at the PAU Mela Ground.

Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education said that GADVASU is making all out efforts for the development of the livestock sector in the state by strengthening its extension programmes. In order to motivate various categories of livestock farmers, the university organizes innovative competitions by assessing the extent and impact of adoption of these technologies in improving the productivity and profitability of different livestock farming systems.

He revealed that In the Cattle Farming category, S. Balwinder Singh S/o S. Baldev Singh, Village Ranwan, Distt Ludhiana got the award. He started dairy farming in 2009. Now he has 132 cows and the daily milk production at his farm is 15 quintals. He had established a milking parlour and an ultra-modern shed. He has tagged all his animals and uses an automatic scraper for dairy waste management.  One of his cows has a record of 58 liters milk production per day.

In Poultry Farming category, S. Jatinder Pal Singh S/o S. Harbhajan Singh, SBS Nagar, Pakhowal Road, Distt. Ludhiana got the award. He started poultry farming in 2004. Now he has 1.14 lac birds and the daily production of eggs is 80,000. He follows the recommendations of the University to manage his farm. He has established a cage system based shed and manufactures feed using his own feed mill. The birds are fed using semi-automatic feeders as well. He is registered with FSSAI and the marketing of eggs is done by himself.

In the category of Value Addition of Livestock Produce, S. Satnam Singh S/o S. Karam Singh, Sasrali, PO Basti Jodhewal, Distt. Ludhiana was conferred the award. He started with dairy processing in the year 2014. He has obtained registration from FSSAI for milk products and has inked Memorandum of Understanding with GADVASU Ludhiana as well. He owns 50 cows and 20 buffaloes with a total production of 13 quintals of milk per day, all of which is processed into products.

He has registered his firm as “Namdhari Food and Dairy Industries” which has modern milk processing equipment and he sells the products under the brand name “The Cream Way”. These awards carry a plaque, shawl and citation along with cash.
