The three-day National Dairy Mela 2020 was held at the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal. Contests were organized in as many as 10 different categories, including beauty as well as milk production at the dairy mela.
A cow that belonged to a farmer from Dadupur village in Karnal, Pradeep bagged the first prize in the HF crossbreed category of high milk output by yielding 58.86kg milk. The second prize was given to a cow owned by another farmer, Vijender Chauhan of Barani Khalsa for producing 58 kg milk per day.
In the other crossbreed cows’ milking contest, a farmer from Ambala, Jasdeep Singh’s cow stood 1st with a milk yield of 26.97 kg.
In the indigenous cows’ category - a cow owned by Ram Singh of Taraori stood at top with a milk yield of 21.31kg. The second position was bagged by farmer Naresh’s cow with a milk yield of 15.81 kg/day.
Talking about Murrah buffalo (milk yield) contest, Assandh farmer Randeep’s buffalo topped the list with 21.77 kg milk yield. The second prize was bagged by Buffalo of Mundh village farmer Kuldeep with 18.94 kg milk yield. Buffalo of Rakesh of Kaithal got third position with a yield 17.84 kg milk.
