An International Camel Festival was held in Bikaner on 12th January 2020. Bikaner is famous for being the only camel breeding region, so this two-day festival was exclusively dedicated to these tough animals surviving in the harsh desert conditions. The festival is celebrated every year and is significant to the people of Rajasthan because there were no automobiles in the early times, so camels were the only transport. During the parade, animals are nicely adorned with traditional necklaces, heavy anklets & vibrant bridles. The festival embodies the famous camel dance, a hilarious spectacle where the camels follow the instructions of their owners.
Besides, there is a chance to witness camel games, fur design, taste unique camel milk tea, try delicious food, listen to traditional folk music & buy some crafts. The ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner, Rajasthan organized Camel Race Competition in its premises as a part of “International Camel Festival” in collaboration with Department of Tourism Rajasthan Government and District Administration on 12th January, 2020.
To promote the scientific and extension activities of the Centre, an exhibition of research and extension activities along with the camels of different breeds were also displayed at the site of the competition as germplasm resource being maintained by the Centre. The event was witnessed by over 2,000 Foreign and Indian Tourists.
Parade camel races, neck shaking camel rides, camel dances, and much more are an integral part of international Bikaner Camel Festival in Rajasthan. These brave animals have even been enrolled in the army.
