Keeping in mind the increasing demand of Pig farming training, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences, University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, started two week online pig farming training. Pig farming is gaining popularity in the State in all social strata of the society because of its good profitability. Dr P S Brar Director Extension Education, GADVASU revealed that University regularly organizes the different training programmes on livestock farming on and off campus. But now due to COVID-19 pandemic, the university decided to start online training programme. He further told that though extension wing regularly organizing free knowledge disseminating webinars for livestock farmers, but this is the first training programme where the trainee will get the certificate after successful completion of the training programme. Dr S K Kansal, Prof cum Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, revealed that department is doing its best to disseminate the knowledge even in COVID- 19 pandemic through webinars, tele -consultancy, apps, online seasonal advisories on livestock farming, text/ SMS service and through its monthly magazine.
Dr Jaswinder Singh, Assistant Professor, coordinator of this training revealed that now onward online training programmes will be a regular feature. Further he revealed that University has developed an android mobile based “Pig Farming App” both in Punjabi and Hindi language. One can download it from Google play store to have quick knowledge. Also one can watch the livestock farming related videos on University’s Youtube channel “GADVASU farmer’s friendly e-extension”.
Dr Ravdeep Singh and Dr Gurjot Kaur Mavi, associate coordinators of this training revealed that they took a pre training rehearsal class of the trainees to acquaint them with online tools so that knowledge dissemination and gaining should take place hassle free.
