With the objectives to cascade awareness and disseminate wisdom on preventive measures, effective actions and healthy lifestyle through regular physical activities, nutritious food, by adopting and practicing in our daily lives, to avoid and manage diabetes, ASSOCHAM, under ILLNESS TO WELLNESS campaign, is organizing a Webinar on “Diabetes Free India” in the light of “World Diabetes Day” on Friday, 12th November 2021, 2.30 PM -3.30 PM.

Why Attend?

  • Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Over time, uncontrolled diabetes leads to serious body systems damage, especially the nerves and blood vessels.

  • There are ample studies conducted by eminent RSSDI (Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India) which emphatically depict and highlights that diabetes is a major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke, and lower limb amputation and pre-diabetes is associated with a high risk of cardiac arrest and substantial increase in new cases of diabetes during COVID-19 pandemic due to various reasons. Furthermore, there is a substantial increase in premature mortality from diabetes.

  • Globally, diabetes is increasing unabated. One in six people with diabetes in the world is from India. The immediate and most urgent need of the hour is to support the adoption of effective measures for the prevention, control, and management of diabetes and its complications, particularly in low-and middle-income countries like India. India is also committed to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has been driving an array of SDG initiatives through a preventive and promotive health care orientation and universal access to good quality health care services.

  • The SDG-focused initiatives and their progress monitoring are more relevant than ever in today’s world as the world has charted the course to build back better after the global pandemic that has disrupted development progress in almost all aspects. International Diabetes Foundation (IDF) Atlas emphatically stated that India needs to pause and re-evaluate its strategy to combat diabetes. As part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Member States have set an ambitious target to reduce premature mortality from NCDs, including diabetes, by one-third.
