Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal on Monday ordered the additional deputy commissioners of the hit areas to host special Aadhaar updation camps in the state as the federal government encourages citizens to update their Aadhaar documents.
Using video conferencing, the chief secretary presided over a meeting of the UID implementation committee that included extra deputy commissioners and other interested officers.
On November 10, the national government published a statement encouraging residents with Aadhaar cards that were issued ten years ago but have not been updated subsequently to get those documents updated. "It has been mistakenly stated in certain news publications that it has become mandatory. It is advised to disregard these stories and posts on social media.
In a previous news release, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) emphasized that it is pushing and encouraging residents to keep their documents up-to-date. Residents "may" do so at the end of every 10 years, according to a recently published gazette notification, it had stated.
A press release from the Haryana government stated that "citizens having an Aadhaar generated more than 10 years ago need to revalidate details in their Aadhaar by updating the proof of identity (POI) and proof of address (POA) documents to steadily avail the benefits of government services," adding that the chief secretary has instructed the officers to expedite the Aadhaar revalidation process.
As residents visit these locations to access government services and Aadhaar facilitation, the chief secretary instructed the state registrar to continue deploying at least three operational kits at each district-level mini secretariat and at least one operational kit at subdivisional magistrate (SDM) offices, tehsils, sub-tehsils, and blocks in all districts.
The chief secretary further instructed the IT division to see that the internal model was implemented in compliance with guidelines provided by the UIDAI. According to him, only a few Aadhaar centers will be able to accept new adult residents in order to build the Aadhaar ecosystem. For the purpose of resolving the required biometric update (MBU) pending issue, the department should organize camps in cooperation with the education department.
The chief secretary gave the health department instructions to make sure that every newborn is registered with Aadhaar. Additionally, he gave the school education department instructions to create a roster for regular camps to enroll students who have been left out in both public and private schools.
Regular camps must be held to sign up kids for Anganwadis. The women and child development department should create a district-by-district roster for this and share it with deputy commissioners and UIDAI's regional headquarters in Chandigarh.
