Bank Holidays: Banks to Remain Shut for 12 Days in September 2021

Banks in India will remain closed for up to Twelve Days in September 2021, including the second & forth Saturdays & all Sundays. Apart from this, there are six week offs. The banks will remain shut in different states on an account of different holidays.

Banks in most of the states will observe a holiday on 10^th September 2021, on an account Ganesh Chaturthi/Samvatsari. Since there are state-specific holidays for different occasions, the banks will not be shut for all six days for all the states in September 2021. Also 11^th September’s leave overlaps with Second Saturday.

The Reserve Bank of India has categorized the holidays under three categories and these are- Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act & Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday, Holiday under Negotiable Instrument Act and Banks Closing of Accounts.

The list of the Holidays mentioned below has been notified by the Reserve Bank of India.

Bank Holidays in September 2021

• 8^th September, 2021: Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva

• 9^th September, 2021: Teej (Haritalika)

• 10^th September, 2021: Ganesh Chaturthi/Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Vinayakar Chathurthi/Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata

• 11^th September, 2021:  Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd day)

• 17^th September, 2021: Karma Puja

• 20^th September, 2021: Indrajatra

• 21^st September, 2021: Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day

Only banks in Guwahati will observe the holiday on 8^th September 2021 is due to the Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva. Banks in Gangtok will remain closed on 9^th September 2021, on an account of Teej (Haritalika). Banks in most of the states will remain shut on 10^th September 2021, expect in Aizawl, Agartala, Chandigarh, Jammu, Jaipur, Bhopal, Kochi, Kanpur, Kolkata, New Delhi, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Shimla, Shillong, Srinagar & Thiruvananthapuram.

On 11^th September 2021, banks in Panaji will observe a holiday on an account of Karma Puja. While only Ranchi will remain shut on 20^th September on an account of Indrajatra. Only Thriuvananthapuram & Kochi will observe a bank holiday on 21^st September 2021, due to Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day.
